The Deck Quarters

We booked on 16th Feb for two nights at the end of April and paid the requested 50% deposit. The next day, family difficulties meant we had to cancel. It’s now 3rd March, and the deposit still hasn’t been refunded. I’ve had to open a transaction dispute with my bank to try to get the money back on our card. This was meant to be our third visit, so I’m very disappointed. I won’t deal with this place or book through Booking.com again. Beware.

The location is great, and the bathroom was decent with clean towels and bedding. But the room, The Lift, was a letdown during our long weekend for a family wedding. The four-star rating and photos made it look well-appointed, clean and salubrious, but the kitchenette looked tired, dirty and grimy enough that I hesitated to touch anything. There was no milk or welcoming touch in the fridge. The spiral stairs had lots of cobwebs, and the ceiling seemed to have dead bugs stuck across it. A broom would have helped. I was so uneasy I kept thinking something might fall on me while I slept. A fresh coat of paint and an industrial clean would make a big difference.

We booked at the last minute for a midweek stay and were delighted. We were in the upstairs “Boudoir Room” in a lovely old building, close to everything but quiet. The decor was quality, and it was pet friendly too. For a midwinter visit, the heating was great. There was a sumptuous bed, bathrobes, a spa bath for two, and both a rain shower and handheld shower, with body wash, shampoo and other toiletries provided. Coffee machine, tea and milk as well.

I liked the atmosphere, but the cleanliness needs work. My pillow was dirty, and so was the blanket on the bed. Sorry to say it, but I wouldn’t stay again. I hope you can improve.
