The staff were friendly, and the location was great, but our family room for five was underwhelming at $600 for one night, plus $40 for parking. The room was dated, plain, and tiny. Our view was a roof in the middle of the motel, with air-conditioning units and bird droppings. I’m small and couldn’t see how anyone bigger than me could shower comfortably. It wasn’t what we expected from the photos and other reviews.

We’re Mum and Dad, travelling with our nine-month-old baby and three-year-old toddler on the way back to Victoria from an interstate holiday. Two staff members were returning to work from a coffee break when we arrived and insisted on helping with our luggage, loading us and the bags into the elevator. They took the stairs and met us on the next floor, then rolled our luggage to reception. They were very friendly and engaging, and reception staff were accommodating with our requests. The cot was already set up, and the restaurant staff were lovely and professional. They make a damn good mocha. The location is perfect for Southern Cross Station, especially with a toddler whose legs tire easily.

It was a quiet, clean, well-presented room in a good location, and the breakfast buffet was very good. The food was good quality but pricey, and room service was unreliable. The $28 cheesecake came without the ice cream it was supposed to include, and the Sprite I ordered turned out to be soda water. The bed was the bigger frustration: the premiere room’s “King Bed” was actually two singles pushed together. They were squishy and slid around on castors, so I had to balance on one each night and barely move in case I rolled off. It felt ridiculous.

The rooms were a nice size and the staff were friendly, quick to help when we had technical problems. We stayed over New Year’s, and the location was great, with trains just across the road. You can feel the vibrations and it gets a bit loud sometimes, but it wasn’t too bad. Our room hadn’t been cleaned properly before we were sent up, since we found a pill on the floor. Apart from that, we had a great stay.

We had everything we needed in a small, clean room, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was the best part of our quick one-night stay for the Oasis concert. Getting there from the airport was easy: SkyBus to Southern Cross, then a walk across the street. A free tram stops right outside the front door and can take you wherever you want to go. Great stay!
