The location was good and the hotel itself was comfortable, but poor service made the stay frustrating. The air conditioning never worked, whatever setting I tried, and a fan was the only fix they offered after checking it around 8 pm. The TV remote couldn't be programmed, and I had to collect the TV from reception. I reported the slow-draining bathroom sink at 6 pm, but it wasn't sorted until 9:30 pm. When I called reception several times between 8 and 9 pm, nobody answered. They offered me another room at 10 pm, much too late to be useful. They did extend checkout to 2 pm, which I appreciated.

The location is nice, but the rooms are tiny and you can hear everything through the walls, from people in the hall to the plumbing and other building noises. During my five-night stay, they serviced the room only for the first two days. All there was in the room was a small bar fridge, two cups, teaspoons and a kettle. I'd have been better off in a backpackers.

It's a really handy spot, about a 10-minute walk south to the town centre or north to Uni. The service is friendly, though I've sometimes waited 5-10 minutes at the front desk. Rooms get serviced daily, but I noticed a surprising amount of dust coming from the ventilation. The wardrobe is small for a longer stay, although it's fine for a few days if you're happy to take things straight from your suitcase.

I thought the room was okay for the price and the location seemed good, but I left covered in bites on my leg. A doctor later confirmed they were bed bug bites, and I had no bites or rash before the stay, as the photo below shows. The aircon was extremely dusty too. Since I'd left my luggage open right beside the bed because there wasn't much room for my things, I had to wash everything and throw some items away once I got home. I'd pay a bit more to stay somewhere else.

A couple of things could be better: the lift indicator is too loud, and there was dust under the bed and along the sides of the tables. The decor also feels a bit like student accommodation, which may be what they're going for. Still, the place was reasonable and right where I needed to be. It's clean and tidy overall, with an iron, safe, shampoo and conditioner, and a minibar stocked with milk for the tea and coffee. Staff are there 24/7, which suits this kind of hotel, and the card works for the entrance, lift and room. Swanston St is two minutes from a tram into the city, and you can walk to the city or Lygon St. The immediate blocks don't have much going on, though, and the room is on the small side. There's a lobby area to hang out with friends and a recreation area.
