Laneways by Ovolo

The staff were fabulous and the location was great. The bedrooms were a decent size, too, though the bathroom was tiny with hardly any storage. Noise was a problem: the walls were paper thin, and we could hear everything next door. The room and corridor didn’t smell great, the air conditioning was so loud we had to switch it off, and the Wi-Fi kept dropping out.

The team made things easy when I had a parcel delivered, and the free lollies were a fun little welcome. My room was spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, and Laneways by Ovolo is in a great spot. A pleasure to stay here. I’d happily come back and recommend it.

The place has a cool vibe, and the woman who checked me in was lovely and attentive. At checkout, the guy was wearing headphones and was okay at best. I’m 6’6, and the room was comfortable enough but tight for me. I couldn’t fit in the shower. The sink was thigh height, and I couldn’t fit the glasses in it to fill them. A complimentary bottle of water would’ve been a nice touch, especially since it isn’t that cheap.

The staff were lovely, and there are a few practical parking options, including a two-minute drop-off outside and some two-hour metered spots. Still, parking can be a pain. For a penthouse apartment, I expected better upkeep. There was glue and Blu Tack left on the walls, hair on the bathroom wall and ceiling, a broken fan, mould on the tiles, and a dirty shower. The balcony felt dangerous, with holes and missing pieces in the wooden floor, and one of the girls staying there was injured. I came away with mixed feelings. I wouldn’t recommend it unless the price were much lower and you just needed a quick budget stop between places.
