Madison Apartment

I got trapped in the lift, and it took a long time before a child outside happened to open the door and let me out. When I pressed the emergency button, the operator hung up. This is a hard place to feel comfortable in.

The apartment was filthy, and I don’t believe it was what I paid for. The blankets were stained, and some beds had no mattress protector at all. The protectors on the other beds were stained too. The place looked like years of dirt had built up. One bed slat was broken, and after the first night it was repaired poorly. The maintenance workers left the apartment unlocked, putting our belongings at risk. I contacted the host to say I wasn’t happy, but he only said he’d speak to his team. I had no other option because I’d already paid, so my family and I stayed. I can’t believe I let them sleep there. Airbnb didn’t help, saying I hadn’t complained within 72 hours of checking in. We booked the airbnb at 2313/639 Lonsdale Street for 18/09-24/09/2023.

The staff and owner did everything they could to avoid giving our money back. This was my first vacation, and the apartment ruined the experience. My brother is a germaphobe and it made things awful for him too. We had less spending money because of it. We stayed two nights: we arrived really late and fell asleep after about three hours, then stayed another night while my mum tried to get a refund and book somewhere else. The beds were filthy, with what looked like piss stains and black mold. The blanket filling was torn out, its fluff was everywhere, and the covers were thin and poor quality. The pull-out couch had snapped wood and no support. Chairs were wobbly, uneven, broken, cheap, and noisy. The bathroom was in bad shape too. The fan didn’t work, so my dad couldn’t cool down after his shower. The floor was dirty, the walls were stained and chipped, and the bathroom light had black mold and flies in it. The windows were chipped around the edges, and the inside of the bathroom window drawers was filthy. The blinds were broken and had rope attached. There was dirt and damage everywhere else: stains and marks on the floor, filthy tiles with footprints stuck to them, and ripped, stained carpet. The balcony looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a month, with spider webs, dead flies, and marks all over. The TV was broken, with green and black lines across the screen. The walls had footprints, marks, dents, peeling paint, and chips. This apartment was disgusting and a scam.

After living here for eight months, I can say this is a horrible place to stay, especially as a resident. The experience of discussing, using, or reporting anything about building services has been incredibly uncomfortable. I really don’t recommend it. The pools are the only amenities that seem to be in decent shape. Both gyms are badly equipped, and the few machines there are broken, useless, or poorly repaired. The fancy hydraulic piston machines are a waste of money, often broken or malfunctioning. The barbecues have problems too, are often out of order, dirty, or smelly. The front desk staff have been disrespectful, aggressive, lazy, and, in my experience, racist and egocentric. One woman in particular, an Asian woman who wasn’t very tall and had brown hair, was especially rude and arrogant to me without reason. I had to speak with her a few times to collect items and set up my profile in the building app, which is extremely impractical. I didn’t get her name. I hope the managers and supervisor read this and take action.
