The Langham, Melbourne

The lobby looked elegant, and I loved the New Year’s decorations. I also spent a lot of time relaxing at the wonderful pool and spa, looking out over the Melbourne skyline. The pool deck was peaceful and the service there was great. I didn’t get to buy anything from Flavours of Langham, but I’d like to return, even though staying here felt a bit like ticking a box for me. The room had a timeless look, but I found it awkward to use. There wasn’t much bathroom counter space, and having the toilet and shower facing each other felt off. The views were stunning, and the staff were kind and provided excellent service. I booked The Langham for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day through booking.com, which said cable channels were available. In the room, though, there were only a few channels, without the full guide, including fox8 and the more popular sports channels. If I’d known, I probably wouldn’t have booked. This wasn’t The Langham’s fault, but it affected my stay. The in-room dining disappointed me too. My iced coffee tasted like coffee, water and ice, and even with the sugar I requested it was painfully bitter. The nachos came without guacamole or sour cream, so I had to chase those up. The guacamole tasted like store bought dip, though I could be wrong. The nasi goreng was bland and had no flavour.

The pool and outdoor jacuzzi spa were a lovely surprise. Our upgraded river view queen room was spacious and filled with light from huge windows facing both east and west, and the extra cost felt worthwhile. The marble bathroom was elegant, with a separate tub and a great shower where the pressure was strong and the temperature easy to adjust. The bed was very comfortable, especially the memory foam pillows. We spent five nights here while visiting family in Melbourne. It’s centrally located and easy to walk to almost anywhere, and service from everyone was excellent, from the valet and front desk to housekeeping, restaurant servers and bartender.

The food was a real highlight, fresh and beautifully presented, and every plate tasted top quality. The team at The Langham Melbourne were attentive with a smile, without getting in the way, and made sure everyone was looked after. The festive decorations in the function room gave the evening a bit of winter wonderland magic, while the room still felt elegant and relaxed. We attended a Christmas party there and had a wonderful time. From arrival, the staff were warm and welcoming, and the whole setting felt just right for making memories. It was a special, unforgettable evening. I’d happily recommend The Langham Melbourne for a celebration, and I’m already looking forward to the next one.

I was at The Langham for a five day work event, and the service was great all the way from arrival through checkout. Julie, Georgia, Riley and the team supporting our event deserve a special mention. The busker and DJ were just right, and breakfast was out of this world. The chef making poached eggs remembered me each morning and prepared them for my congee. The Indian chef recognised me too and started on my garlic cheese naan as soon as he spotted me. The gym had plenty of equipment. I didn’t get a chance to use the spa or pool, but they looked really nice. I’d highly recommend staying here.
