A small, clean and homely place, best suited to a couple or no more than three people. Towels and sheets are supplied, but bring your own milk and coffee as the amount provided is very limited. Parking is tight and congested. The main market is close by.

We loved our stay, as a couple and as a family. Bev, the manager, was an excellent communicator and nothing was a problem. This place is a real gem on the hill, looking out over the lake and ocean. I couldn’t recommend it more.

This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had trying to find somewhere to stay. My family and I are from Nethercote, and after dangerous fires forced us to evacuate, we booked an apartment on Friday, January 3rd, for Saturday and Sunday. The booking was confirmed straight away and again on Saturday morning after we arranged an early check-in. We arrived at 11am with the car packed, but every parking space was taken. I called the manager and owner, Karen, who wasn’t on site and had no solution. The apartment was locked, so I called again. That’s when I found out she had given it to someone else without contacting us, despite having plenty of time to let us know. We were devastated and disgusted by how Karen handled it. I don’t blame the other evacuees, but there are several evacuation centres nearby and we were evacuees too. I’m still shocked that we weren’t updated. If she’d told us on Friday, or at any point, I wouldn’t be nearly as appalled. Her poor communication and organisation left us stranded when we needed help. Luckily, we found somewhere else in time.

We didn’t end up staying, but we had booked. There was a double booking, which could easily have made for a bad review. Bev, the manager, spotted it a few days ahead, arranged a similar apartment, and had everything sorted before she even contacted me. The service was five star. I’d book Hydra again in a heartbeat because of it.
