The room was large, clean, and spacious, with good bones for a typical Aussie motel, though maybe I just got a less ideal room. The Wi-Fi was weak and slow. There were two networks, but I could only access the one with the weaker signal. My Optus mobile didn’t work either, lol. There were only two power points under the bed, so I had to pull it out to plug in my phone. That’s when I found the electric blanket leads, a welcome discovery with single-digit temperatures overnight, though one blanket didn’t work. So one phone was charging and only half the bed was warm. The other phone charged from a kitchen outlet. We had a long debate over who got the warm side and who kept their phone close, very first-world problems. It was good value, and fixing a few small annoyances could earn it another half-star. I booked online, and my key was waiting at reception when I arrived around 5pm. I didn’t encounter a single person, a first for me, lol. The location is pleasant, near Bunnings and the industrial end of town; shops are a short drive away. I’d stay again, perhaps in a different room.

The room had what we needed for one night: it was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable, water pressure was good, and parking was easy. Face washers would have been a nice addition. We had to drive a short way to get dinner.

Our family room had a partitioned area for the two twin beds, which gave us some welcome extra space. It was clean, though the rooms are tired and the decor dated. The motel sits on the outskirts, so you’ll need to drive to the shops and cafes. It’s set back from a busy road, but there was still a fair amount of traffic noise.

We’ve been coming for years and haven’t been disappointed. It’s a handy stopover for families or couples who want a simple place to sleep, not a romantic getaway. The rooms are decent for the price, about 20 minutes from Bowral and 10 minutes from Mittagong RSL. Some room colours don’t work for me and the decor is dated, but a little care, fresh paint, and new bedspreads could make this a cracking place.

We only needed a night for a birthday party, and that was enough. Arriving at 5pm, we found the keys left out with nobody there to greet us. The room looked freshly painted after some renovations, but the bathroom door was dirty and a bad smell came from the bathroom. The bed was old with a hard mattress, and although there was heating, the old reverse-cycle air conditioner had mould inside. I wouldn’t recommend staying longer than a night.
