Railway Motel

Check-in was easy for our very nice two-night stay. The room was comfortable and immaculately clean, with a modern shower area that was smaller than we expected. We’d happily stay again and recommend it.

We were travelling to Porepunkah for a camping holiday with a trailer full of gear, but forecast temperatures in the 40s and several fires along our route had us concerned. Booking was easy, and we were pleased to learn there was undercover parking for the car and trailer, extra parking if needed, and security cameras in the car park. We put the trailer under cover because we worried about losing our gear, then parked the car behind the motel. The room was a pleasant surprise: not large, but comfortable, clean, new and equipped with everything we needed. The air conditioning was very welcome on such a ghastly hot day. Staff were courteous and positive throughout. When we asked by phone about using the adjoining space beside the next-door room, the staff member said it was booked, but offered to move those guests to another room so we could use the space to block access to our trailer. I have no hesitation recommending this accommodation.

There are spacious rooms and some undercover parking, plus an outdoor undercover sitting area. It’s a good choice for motorcycle groups, and the staff are friendly. Self-serve check-in. The main street is an easy walk, with a bakery 50m away and a hotel 150m away. There are upstairs rooms too, but I prefer downstairs, so mention that when booking and staff will try to accommodate your needs. Highly recommend for biker ride groups.

We were booked for one night with a large group, but bushfires made it unsafe to get across the mountain, so we had to cancel. The hotel wouldn’t refund us because of the late notice, even though bushfires don’t give much warning. The staff member wasn’t friendly and wouldn’t negotiate a full or partial refund. Very disappointing response. We won’t book here again.
