What bothered me most was how rudely Kel spoke to me when I called Ash Palms. I wasn’t asking for a refund, just letting them know our worker wouldn’t reach Weipa that night and explaining the rough day he’d had. She talked over me, blamed him for missing a flight, and kept bringing up the 72hr cancellation policy. The policy itself wasn’t my complaint. The way she handled the call was appalling, and a little compassion would have gone a long way. Our worker had been at Brisbane airport since before 6am. His flight to Cairns was delayed, so he was at risk of missing his connection to Weipa. I arranged new Qantas flights that morning, but his second flight leaving Brisbane was delayed too. Since he was travelling and couldn’t be reached, we only heard from him after he landed in Cairns just before 5pm. By then, he knew he wouldn’t make it to Weipa. Qantas arranged accommodation and alternative flights for him, despite the day’s problems. The whole situation was unfortunate, and this was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.

Ash Palms is across the road from the local shops, and it’s really quiet there. The place is entirely self contained, which worked well for a few days of work in Weipa. Kellie was such a friendly host and went out of her way to check that we had what we needed. I can’t recommend them highly enough, and we’ll stay nowhere else next time.

The accommodation had everything we needed, including a washer and dryer. Sherilee was an especially wonderful host and did so much to make us feel welcome. Highly recommended.

The woman who checked me in was friendly and made me feel welcome, and the place was spotless with a lovely fresh smell. I was only there for one night, but could easily have stayed a week. It felt like a home away from home, with all the things I tend to miss when travelling for work: a cook top, washing machine, microwave, iron, and more. 10 outa 10.

I spent 3 weeks in a clean, comfortable self contained unit at The Ash Palms. It had everything I needed and more, including austar, and the management made it feel like a home away from home. I won’t hesitate to recommend The Ash Palms to anyone looking for accomadation in Weipa.
