We got around Hobart without needing a car. The bus stop is just a short walk up the street, and the fare was only $2.70 for an adult and child without concession. We enjoyed staying here with our child. The rooms were lovely, the bathrooms spotless, and with hardly any other guests around, we never queued for the shared amenities. The kitchen had everything for cooking, plus a good range of cereal, spreads, milk and bread.

There are cafes, restaurants, antique shops, a laundry and a supermarket nearby. Inside, the shared areas are roomy and easy to use, with several bathrooms with showers, a large dining space and a separate kitchen. Breakfast staples and plenty of crockery and cutlery were supplied. The rooms and common spaces have artwork, books and board games, and we found everything we needed. It all felt thoughtfully put together for a relaxing stay that gave us plenty to think about.

The mood of Assemblage was what made it our favourite place to stay. It’s a converted 19th-century post office, and the building has a lovely feel. We even had the whole place to ourselves for a night or two. Our upstairs room looked towards Mt Wellington, and the downstairs kitchen was well equipped. There’s a tasty Chinese restaurant opposite, a good cafe and pastry shop a couple of doors down, and Woolies and Kmart are an easy walk away without feeling right on the doorstep. It was also a handy base for driving around and exploring the Hobart area.

The price felt like really good value for what we got. Our room had views of Mt Wellington, and the decor was different in each room, giving the place a homely feel. The rooms were thoughtfully set up with what you need. Bathrooms are shared, but they were impeccably clean and we never had to wait. I also appreciated the cruelty-free Sukin toiletries. There are supermarkets, shops and cafes close by, and the CBD is a short drive away. Highly recommend the Dispatch Cafe downstairs. Free parking on the adjacent road too. We really enjoyed our stay, one of the best places on our three-month trip.

We had a lovely week here as a family. The kids were kept busy with the range of activities, and the place was welcoming for them. Our room also had stunning views of Mount Wellington. The spacious rooms and comfortable beds made for restful nights, and the decor and amenities had clearly been chosen with care. The accommodation was beautiful and felt like home. Staff were attentive and accommodating, making sure we had what we needed. We can’t wait to return.
