Maitland City Motel

My husband booked a disability room a week ahead because we were travelling through. It was clean, tidy and otherwise great, but the mattress was far too soft for me. I have chronic pain and ended up in hospital because I couldn’t move. I spent most of our holiday in a hospital bed, so the trip was ruined. For a disability room, they should consider firmer mattresses, perhaps memory foam, to make things easier for people with disabilities. Apart from the bed, I have no complaints.

The sheets were clean, but the utensils and coffee mugs weren’t. The room was old and very run down, with no Wi-Fi or Netflix. A woman in the room next door was very loud in the early hours and kept us awake.

I booked two midweek nights through booking.com and the booking was accepted. An hour later, hotel staff called to say the room wasn’t available, though they could offer another one at a much higher rate. I declined and said I could book elsewhere. The next day, I noticed the booking was still listed, so I called. A different staff member said the room was available and the earlier employee had made a mistake. I asked them to cancel the booking. They didn’t cancel it, but denied my credit card. When I called again the next day, I was assured it would be cancelled within 24 hours. It wasn’t, and booking.com kept emailing me to say payment was due. A very poor response to their mistakes.

There were no staff on site, and people were obnoxiously loud well past 10pm. I woke several times to drunk people yelling and screaming. Then sometime after midnight, someone walked through the complex blasting rap music from a loudspeaker, waking my whole family. The pool area was filthy and covered in litter. That was the worst sleep I’ve ever had at a motel. I would not stay here again if you paid me. Avoid at all costs.
