Surf Beach Motel Newcastle

We were surprised by how good this place was. We’ve spent ridiculous amounts on hotels in Sydney over the past week, and none came close to this apartment for size or cleanliness. It’s a roomy, clean place to stay for the night, and we’d recommend it. The room has handy amenities, including a microwave, fridge freezer and hair dryer.

The rooms are nice and well priced, and the bathroom was great. This was the only one of the five places we stayed that had a kitchen sink. The location is good, and despite being near a busy road, it wasn’t too loud. The only other issue was the parking spaces, which are so small you can barely open the door. Getting young children in and out was difficult. We’d asked for a ground floor room but got one on the first floor. That was disappointing, especially since the parking spaces for those rooms are farther away. We had to carry our luggage up the stairs and walk farther as well. Aside from that, it was very good.

The room felt modern, was very clean and well maintained, and had great amenities for the price. The TV was quite large and good for watching movies, and the air conditioning worked really well. The soap and shampoo dispensers were empty when we checked in, but reception staff refilled them after I asked.

The room was clean, with a comfortable bed and bathroom, though the pillow was quite low. If you prefer a high pillow, bring your own. The internet was very strong. There’s a microwave, toaster, kettle, plates and cutlery to use. The hotel is on the highway, but it wasn’t noisy. Charlestown Square and Westfield Kotara are both less than a 10-minute drive away.
