Surgeons Cottage

We chose Surgeons Cottage after hours of research for a family history trip around the region, and what a find. Morpeth itself is beautiful, with shops and restaurants close by. We enjoyed walking through town each day to see its wonderful streetscapes and buildings. We stayed in the front cottage, Surgeons Cottage, rather than the Loft behind it. It’s an older building, but beautifully maintained and presented, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting and dining areas, and an immaculately refurbished bathroom. It would work well for a dinner party, as long as everyone behaved. Helen was friendly and accommodating when weather in Brisbane meant we had to shift our dates by a few days. The cottage welcomes pets, with reasonable rules, and the property is dog secure. Dogs need to stay on leash in the back area to protect the cheeky water lizards that come to visit. Bring a banana.

We had a lovely weekend here for a family wedding. The owner was lovely to deal with, the garden is beautiful, and the amenities are ample. It’s a charming character cottage on Morpeth’s main street, with cafes and shops very close by. Some walls have a few cracks, but it’s a very old, historic property. We’d recommend it and would visit again.

We had a weekend getaway in Morpeth, and the location was perfect. The Loft cottage was just the right size for two couples. A lovely way to visit.

A very unpleasant experience with the owners or managers. They accepted my deposit, but when I cancelled within an hour, they wouldn’t give me the full refund promised in their cancellation policy.
