Tantarra Guest House

I was really disappointed after reading so many reviews about how wonderful this place is. The bed was comfy, the flooring was modern and the bathroom itself was modern, but there were a lot of problems. The room was cold when we arrived, and the bathroom’s only window was stuck wide open. I eventually managed to partly close it and noticed the blinds were full of mould. The ceiling fan and wall decorations were thick with dust. The two dogs in the room labelled “private” barked nonstop for the first two hours. During the night I noticed a strong smell in the room, though I’m not sure what it was. The walls are thin enough that we could clearly hear the couple next door talking. The pool was dirty, and there was no mention of breakfast or any sign of it.

The room was clean, spacious and had pretty Balinese decor. It was dog friendly, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. There was a fan and air con. We didn’t try breakfast because we left early. We used the side door as our main entrance since it was easier to access, though be careful on the steps so you don’t miss one. We arrived late and were sent check-in instructions by text, but the property wasn’t well lit and had no signage like an Airbnb, so we got confused about the location and directions. The neighbours arrived after midnight and were very noisy, waking us after we’d gone to sleep. Our dog is naturally protective and barked at the unfamiliar sounds. The walls and adjoining rooms aren’t well soundproofed, which was the biggest disappointment.

I had a very comfortable three-night stay with my cavalier King Charles spaniel. The room felt homely, and its size and layout were really convenient. The breakfasts were lovely. I’ll definitely be back.

We were fortunate to stay here while travelling from Victoria up to Queensland. My husband, I and our two floofs found the room exceptionally clean, spacious and beautifully styled. It’s wonderfully close to the Esplanade and several great restaurants. Thanks, guys. We hope to visit again for longer next time.
