The setting was the highlight for us. Verona Vineyard Cottage is next to Roche Estate, with a peaceful bushland feel. Through the east-facing windows and sliding doors we could see kangaroos, horses, rabbits, native birds and other wildlife. Out the side, the western vineyard sits beside a pergola and plenty of outdoor seating. We paid $1300 for two weekend nights for eight people, which seemed reasonable. The house was clean, and the beds had nice linen. The kitchen had plenty of crockery and cutlery, plus a good range of tea and coffee. There are four bedrooms with double and queen beds, and the main king can be split on request. Two more single beds are tucked into alcoves in the large lounge, which has a combustion fire and lots of chopped wood. It was a girls' winery weekend in August 2024. The house is an older, tired brick place that needs paint and repairs, and both bathrooms could use a refresh. The windows, tracks, flyscreens and sliding glass doors need cleaning too, and some doors were stiff to open, with little bugs getting in. The back roof guttering made us laugh.

For $1000 a night, I expected a lot more. The house itself is beautiful, but it was covered in cobwebs and the bedsheets hadn't been changed or cleaned. We found a dead mouse in the lounge, and the smell was so bad we had to call and ask for it to be removed. Then I found a long, curly black hair on my pillow as I was getting into bed. I have short, straight blonde hair. My sister got into her bed and found dirt too. I was disgusted.

There were lots of mozzies with all the wet weather, so bring repellent. The house is a little dated and the bathroom needs some attention, including mould on the ceiling. Still, it's in a good spot and works well for a large group.

The house has plenty of space and the location is great, but those are the only positives I can give it. It's old and tired, and needs a proper deep clean, fresh paint and updating. For the price, it wasn't worth it. I was very disappointed.

Such a shame it's been left like this. The house is run down and really dirty, with missing coving and mould. The oven doesn't work, and the beds are very uncomfortable. The furniture is old and filthy. The whole place needs a deep clean and refurbishment.
