LUXURY Apartment Studio PORT DOUGLAS 65 SQ MTRS and Bath

The couch was very comfortable, and having a full kitchen and laundry in the room was useful. But our stay in appointment 12 was disappointing. Dust was thick on the fans, skirting boards, bathroom mirror, fabric lampshades, aircon units and the sides of the bedside tables. The balcony was filthy too, with cobwebs, heavy dust and grime. The whole outside needed a pressure hose. We’re a family of asthmatics with allergies, so walking into this place was a letdown. There were no spare blankets, just a sheet on the bed and couch throws meant to serve as spares. The fridge seal had mould. Pool towels cost $5 each, but nobody was around to buy them from. The hotel has a lot of potential, but it’s being let down. It was strange not to see any cleaners or maintenance workers during the five days we were there.

I expected more comfort and better service for what this hotel costs. There was hardly anyone around during my stay, so interactions felt impersonal. The room and facilities were basic and didn’t match the appealing photos on the website. For its price range, it fell short of what I’d expected. Better service and facilities could make it a much better experience.

We only stayed two nights, thankfully. Our room, number 10, looked like it had received a make-do renovation, with paint chipped off the bench tops, cupboards and other surfaces. The balcony was absolutely filthy, and the surrounding areas were in poor condition too. We hadn’t booked directly, it came through a tour company, but we were very disappointed. It definitely needs a proper revamp. Judging by other reviews, I should have visited three to five years ago to give it a 5/5. It seems to have been let go, though maybe we just got a bad room. It felt like they’d decided this room would do for this couple.

We travelled here in April of 2023, and I’m writing this review quite late, but we’re still thinking about the stay more than two years on. We absolutely loved it. There was a private balcony, pool, BBQ access, full kitchen, laundry and bathroom. If I’m lucky enough to travel back to Oz, I’d definitely stay here again. Cheers!
