David & Joyce were gracious, very helpful hosts. The room was bright, clean and comfortable, and we loved the heated pool, which was just the right temperature, surrounded by tropical gardens. Everything was close by, with a short stroll to Macrossan Street, Four Mile Beach or the Marina. We’ve tried a few Port Douglas resorts, and this one wins hands down. Highly recommended.

The owners are nice, and the resort looks beautiful. It’s centrally located with easy beach access, and our downstairs apartment had good facilities and easy access to the pool. The shower was very small, though, and going eight days without fresh linen, including towels, felt really inadequate in that weather. There was also a dodgy light switch in the living area that should have been fixed before we arrived, as it’s an OHS issue. Even with those problems, we’d stay again if linen could be changed when needed.

We’ve stayed at Port Douglas Retreat several times and plan to come back as soon as we can. The poolside rooms cost a bit more, but we think they’re worth it. The pool is surrounded by lovely tropical gardens, and the smaller resort feels different from the big places. Rooms have kitchenettes, comfortable beds and sofas, plus a nice outdoor setting. The resort is well kept, the prices are good, and it’s so central that walking to town, the beach and the inlet takes only a few minutes. We like Port’s relaxed vibe and good value food, with plenty of choice for a small place, from Asian food to good beers on the inlet. There’s lots of nearby natural beauty too, with the reef a short steam away and great hiking close by if that’s your thing.

The pool area was fantastic, and the rooms were clean with everything needed to cook for ourselves. The location was beautiful and convenient, with everything within about 500m on foot. The shower is on the small side, which could be difficult for anyone with limited mobility.

The hosts were warm and welcoming, and it’s only a five-minute walk to the mainstreet. The pool is fantastic, with a well arranged area that includes a barbecue, fridge and toilets. There are shaded places to sit, as well as plenty of room for anyone who likes baking in the sun. The rooms aren’t especially modern, but they’re spotless and comfortable. Balconys on both the pool and garden sides are lovely for breakfast or a cool drink later in the day. It’s great value, and I’d absolutely stay again.
