The Peninsula Apartments

The team gave us outstanding service, and we’d happily return. Our room looked out over the ocean, had a small private backyard deck, and even came with a dehumidifier. Laundry was free. The hotel is just steps from the beach, with restaurants and shops an easy walk away, and the pay to ride shuttle service was great.

The staff were excellent, the pool was wonderful and breakfast was fantastic. But the moment we walked into the room, the smell of mould and mildew hit us. My nose kept running, and my breathing didn’t get better until I reached the airport for my next destination. I wouldn’t stay here again. Sorry!

The beach is right across the road and the location is great, but we left a day early because the room was nowhere near worth what I paid. It wasn’t ready at 3, so we had to wait. Inside, it was very dated and untidy, and the floor felt slimy underfoot unless you wore shoes. I dropped something under the bed and found a terrible buildup of dust, as if it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. There were no fly screens, so we got heaps of mozzies, and the fans were hard to regulate. I don’t like running aircon all night, and fresh sea air would have been lovely. Breakfast was apparently included, but hotel guests had a limited menu while walk-ins got more choice. The waitress also kept getting sidetracked. I’ve lived in the tropics and understand it was wet season, but that doesn’t excuse the room conditions. It was far too expensive for that standard.

The rooms are pretty dingy and need a lot of work, but if you go in knowing what to expect, the good points win out. The location and pool were great, breakfast was included, and the DIY laundry was clean and handy.
