The Star has a big menu, and I’ve usually chosen from the Chinese options on past visits. This time I ordered fish in curry sauce. There was plenty of fish and vegetables, and the curry gravy was good. But when I asked for chopsticks, the woman taking my order told me, “Don’t make a mess, I don’t want to vacuum tonight.” At my age, being spoken to like a child was pretty unpleasant.

The Chinese food is delicious, exceptionally well cooked, and never heavy or stodgy. There’s a large Chinese menu alongside the usual pub food, so lots to choose from, and prices are very reasonable. The place is central, has plenty of parking and is kid friendly. Service is great too. The bistro decor is getting a little tired, though it still has a cosy, homely country feel. Always a favourite pub, and I enjoy a good meal here.

The Chinese food smelled and tasted so awful it’s put me off my favourite cuisine. Do these so-called chefs even taste what they make? The staff had no personality either. Very poor all round. I’m definitely not going back.

Kaz behind the bar was a legend, and we’ll 100% be back. The service was excellent, the rooms had been freshly cleaned, and the food at the star hotel was excellent too. We had an amazing time, with everything we needed close by.
