Royal Hotel Singleton

After travelling around NSW for work and staying in hotels and motels, I’ve stayed in places that cost much more and didn’t make me feel welcome. The staff here, from the hotel and bar to the bistro, are professional, presentable, respectful and genuinely positive. They don’t seem to hate their jobs. There must be something good in the water there.

The ground-floor rooms had more than humans staying in them, with the humidity at night and the outside lights left on attracting bugs. The meals and drinks were about what you’d expect, and reasonably priced, as were the rooms. The barramundi with chips and salad was Beeeeeautiful, and the chicken schnitzel with chips, beans, carrot, zucchini and gravy was very nice. The food area had good vibes. One night a solo male vocalist played guitar and sang really cool classic songs, and the beer garden music made for a nice atmosphere every night.

The schnitzel was badly done. Its crust was so tough I needed a steak knife to cut it, and the mushroom sauce wasn’t nice. The chips were cold, and the pub salad was slightly below average.

Everyone is so nice here. The staff still remember our visits from before we had kids, and they even know our girl loves the colouring packs when we order food.
