Jules was welcoming and friendly, and the rooms were clean, though old and very basic. It’s a well-run budget motel in the country, but the photos make it look better than it does in person. When my travel plans changed, Jules was firm that I couldn’t change the booking without losing the full amount. That was disappointing, though I understand running a country motel must be hard these days. I’ll try somewhere else next time, as I think I can do better.

The lady looking after us was very kind, and they gave us an Easter gift. But the room really wasn’t clean. The tables were dusty, like they hadn’t been wiped in a while, and there was hair on the shower walls. The soap dispenser was empty too. We stayed with my husband this past weekend and honestly didn’t like it. They need to improve the cleaning.

The room never got cleaned on Friday, even though I left the “please clean my room” tag on the door. Reception sent a cleaner promptly when I asked, which I appreciated. But watching her start to wash our dishes, cutlery and glasses in the only bathroom sink was a shock. It’s the same sink people use to wash their hands after the toilet, brush their teeth and spit, or shave into. I’d assumed a large motel like this would use a commercial dishwasher to properly sanitise the crockery and cutlery guests are expected to use. Maybe that’s a dirty little secret of motels, but I was naive about it. The balcony furniture wasn’t clean either. It took six wet wipes to get it clean enough to sit on without marking our clothes, and it seems to be missed in the regular cleaning. This old 42-year-old place hasn’t had many upgrades and needs definite maintenance. For what we paid, the quality felt massively overpriced, and I wouldn’t recommend it unless there’s nowhere else available. I stayed at Charbonnier hotel Singleton in room 234 from 26/3/2026-30/3/2026. My wife booked it, and her initials are K.S. I don’t usually complain, but it was so below par I had to post a review. After seeing many negative reviews, I noticed the usual response seems to be “we don’t have a record of your stay”.

The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Jules, and free WiFi was a nice bonus. It was a clean, comfortable place with a welcoming feel. I’d definitely stay again.
