We ended up crossing the road to the cafe, where the meals were great, though there was no beer. The pub was far too loud to enjoy, with painfully loud DJ music, and we waited ages just to order. The bar staff seemed stressed and were very curt. It was nothing like the pub I remembered when I invited our friends for a fun Halloween night. Such a letdown. I'd avoid it on weekends.

We stopped here on a road trip from Corlette through Dungog, Stroud and Bulahdelah, and ordered a huge steak sandwich. The panini was fresh, the steak juicy, and there was plenty of salad and cheese. The chips had a great crunch. Service was really friendly, and the young barman even poured the beer with the froth just over the rim of the glass, which you don't see often. The vegetarian's sweet potato salad was fine.

The food was great, but the rooms let in too much light and were really noisy. Guests were playing piano loudly at all hours of the night. When we booked, staff hadn't mentioned that a band would be playing late.
