We only stayed because circumstances left us with no choice, and the room was filthy. Toilet paper was stuffed into the air vents, there was what looked like mould or dirt packed into cracks in the walls and floor, and the beds had cigarette burns and butts all over them. There were cockroaches and a filthy carpet too. The staff looked just as bad and were rude when we asked for plates. They still had old food on them. The cleaning lady came into the room without knocking, including around 6am while we were getting dressed to leave as soon as possible. I can’t recommend this motel unless it improves its service significantly.

The bathroom was the worst I’ve ever seen in a motel. The shower seal was black with mould and had a hole in it. When we turned on the sink’s hot tap, the whole room rattled, but no water came out. Hardly any power points worked, and the fridge clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. After charging us for the room, they also wanted a $50 security deposit to make sure we didn’t pinch anything. I’ve stayed in plenty of motels around Australia, including some bad outback ones, but this takes the cake. I can’t understand why the health department hasn’t shut it down. Don’t stay there.

Room 207 was unbelievably bad. The fridge needed defrosting, carpets were filthy, there were no glasses, and light bulbs were missing. The air conditioner and heater didn’t work at all. The pool was full of mud and leaves, like the black lagoon. A filthy, disgusting motel. If you have to stay there, make sure you’re immunised first!

I stayed two nights at the Blakehurst Motor inn last year and had to try two rooms. Both were equally bad, with cleanliness and safety far below any reasonable expectation. The first had a huge hole in the shower ceiling, lots of mold and grime, and furniture and bedding that were stained or broken. Every electrical outlet was broken or had burn marks. The second room wasn’t much better. Staff were unhelpful and seemed used to complaints, with an “I just work here” attitude. It was $100 a night, which was cheap, but I still expected clean rooms, working basic electrical and plumbing, and a complete shower ceiling so water wouldn’t drip through from the unit above. If Basil Faulty and Manuel had been there, I’d have understood the joke, but they weren’t. Please don’t stay here. The one positive is that whenever people compare the worst places they’ve stayed, I have the best story. I kept my photos as proof when people say it couldn’t be that bad. I encourage others who have stayed at the Blakehurst to add their photos so people can see what to expect.

I saw that A Current Affair had advertised a segment about this hotel, dated 4/9/15. Then I noticed the sign saying “513 and Motel,” searched for it, and found this site. The street view shows the same sign as the one in the advertisement. Confirmed!
