Katoomba Town Centre Motel

The staff were the best part, really pleasant, easy to approach and keen to help. My spa room had a great spa with plenty of space and a very good flow of water. The motel is spotless, and the rooms are very spacious for a motel. It’s also in a great spot, about a five-minute walk from the station. If there were more stars, I’d give it more. I’m looking forward to coming back soon.

The only real positive was the friendly man behind the counter when we checked in. He was gone by the time I came back down to raise the problems, though. The room doesn’t match the price at all. It’s extremely dated, the carpet and fly screens are falling apart, and most TV channels don’t work. Worst of all, there was black mould around the window sills and across the bathroom ceiling. There were dust bunnies in all the corners of the roof, too. The aircon was noisy.

The staff were so welcoming, and letting us check in early was much appreciated. We were able to get the room warm on a cold night once we used Google Lens to figure out the Mitsubishi heat pump split system remote. The furniture looks like it hasn’t been updated in decades, probably since the 1980s, and the mattress could use an update. Still, it was usable, everything worked, and the room was spotlessly clean. Considering the price and the apparent lack of capital for property upgrades in Katoomba’s struggling local economy, we were extremely satisfied with our stay.

We were told there was no manager on weekends to arrange a refund and that we’d have to go through booking.com, which wasn’t the case. I called twice on Monday before the 'Manager' got back to me. They were arrogant, not helpful and showed no empathy, saying they were busy with back-to-back meetings. We’ve had to take all our luggage to the dry cleaners in case we brought bed bugs home. We’d been moved here from their other Motel Echo Point after finding live bed bugs in the bed at 11pm on the 22 Nov. We didn’t expect anything special at that price, but the rooms don’t look like the listings. Town Centre Motel had black mould on the ceiling, cobwebs on the roof, and fish hooks holding the curtains closed. Avoid Echo Point and Town Centre Motel.
