Darlinghurst Road is a great base, with cafes, galleries and nightlife nearby, and Crown Street's vintage shops and shows are easy to get to. The Kirketon Hotel fits the creative feel of this part of Sydney, with contemporary design that still has some character. The service was warm and polished, and the small scale meant I felt like a regular from the start instead of just a room number. It has an edgy but welcoming atmosphere that's hard to find. I totally recommend it!

The rooms are basic and there's no elevator, but the staff and management are what make this place special. They go above and beyond and make it feel like a community service. It's one of the few places I'd actually recommend, especially if you need to stay while supporting a patient at St. Vincent's.

Mosquitoes were all over the room, probably coming through the bathroom window, which didn't shut fully and had no bug screen. The air conditioning didn't work, and I woke up with what I thought were bed bug bites. Then we found a live bed bug in the bed. When we showed the manager a photo, he first said it wasn't clear where it had been taken. After seeing the bug himself, he still tried to say it wasn't a bed bug. He eventually accepted that it was, but refused to refund the two nights we'd spent GETTING BITTEN BY BED BUGS IN HIS HOTEL. He seemed to know nothing about bed bug infestations and argued that one bug couldn't mean an infestation. Anyone who's dealt with bed bugs knows you rarely see live ones, especially in the daytime, until an infestation is severe. I'm covered in bites. The service was absolutely awful and the rooms are vile. Don't give this place your business.

For 280$ for one night, I expected a lot more. The bed was comfortable, though quite short, but the rooms felt about 20 years old, were small and not cleaned very well. The WIFI was poor too. Noise was the worst part: we could hear a bar next door and someone walking on the floor above. When I complained, staff said the bar had a private event, but I'd seen several reviews mentioning the same noise. This was my worst hotel stay ever.

The bed was comfortable and the staff were lovely, but the room didn't feel clean and the bathrooms are very dated. There's no parking onsite, so you have to park a 10 min walk away for $38. It's expensive for what you get. Fine if you're only there to sleep.
