The gardens and old 1930s buildings are lovely to look at, and the hotel cafe was nicely presented with plenty to choose from for food and drinks. We stayed two nights on a powered site as two adults. The drive-through spot had trees and little fences along both sides, but recent and continuing rain had left the ground wet and boggy. The facilities were clean, though dated, with uneven concrete around them. The outward-opening toilet and shower doors made things awkward when several people were using the amenities. The flimsy plastic shower curtains kept sticking to me, and the exhaust fan had to be switched on and off by hand.

We had a great little wildlife bonus, spotting animals and meeting the cows. The Highlander cabins at the very back felt private and comfortable, and suited our one- or two-night stop before carrying on with our road trip. The grounds are beautiful to wander around, with walking trails, but the paths weren't maintained when we visited and a few more signs would help.

The lodge room was clean, comfortable and well equipped, and we had a lovely two-night stay. There is plenty to explore around beautiful Tarraleah, with easy-to-reach walking trails on the property. We especially enjoyed the Highlander Tavern for dinner, and the lodge lounge and bar is a stunning place to settle in with a book or try the whiskey tasting. It's warm, rustic and welcoming. Damian gave us a great welcome and explained how everything worked. Chef Nikki deserves a special mention for the delicious breakfasts each morning. We'll definitely return.

The Saturday night dinner Chris made just for us was incredible, especially that steak. He also arranged breakfast for whatever time suited us and packed lunch, which was a big help with limited options at that time of year. We were looked after by Chris throughout our stay, and the personal, accommodating service started as soon as I booked. My partner and I had finished six days on the Overland in mid-August 2023 and wanted a relaxing weekend before going back to work. Tarraleah Lodge was perfect. Since it was winter, we had the whole place to ourselves. Our Executive Wilderness Suite was superb, and the lodge and its surroundings are stunning, with lots of wildlife and gorgeous highland cattle. The nearby tavern is a relaxed spot for dinner and drinks. We also booked time in the beautifully set-up hot tub. I've stayed in a few places around Tassie, and this is a quiet, relaxed hidden gem with truly excellent staff. Thanks for a wonderful stay. I'm sure we'll be back.

After a long walk, settling into the warm, welcoming cottage was such a treat. It was beautifully furnished, with a nice blend of historic style and modern amenities. The restaurant was a lovely surprise too, with great food, service and atmosphere. I'd happily recommend it.
