The Barracks are elegant and stylish, and just beside the Maria Island ferry wharf. The rooms are outstanding, with quality furnishings and fittings, and the restoration has been done meticulously while keeping all the modern comforts. Breakfast was divine, served by Kim and John in the lovely shared kitchen and dining room, with their own eggs, fruit, yoghurt and more. Kim and John clearly take great pride in the place, and they made us feel completely welcome. Their service was outstanding, and their enthusiasm and knowledge of the area added a lot to an already superb holiday. A truly memorable stay, among the best we’ve had in decades of travel in Australia and overseas. We couldn’t recommend the Barracks more highly.

Kim and John are excellent hosts, and the history of how they carefully restored the barracks is well worth hearing. We stayed in the Loft room, which was beautifully finished and had a huge bathroom. Breakfast was fantastic, with one of the best coffees I’ve had in Tasmania and fresh eggs from the chooks out back. The Maria Island Ferry is a handy 50-metre walk away, and the Spring Bay Hotel is 20 metres away for dinner. We’ve stayed all over Tasmania, from tents to luxury hotels, and this is the best place we’ve found. Simply the best.

Kim and John looked after us so well. We slept beautifully and had a delicious breakfast in the morning. The lovely loft room has an amazing bathroom, and the barracks have been thoughtfully restored. Thank you both very much.

John told us fascinating things about the restoration, much of which he did himself. Kim’s homemade yoghurt, poached fruit, and eggs were another highlight. They welcomed us with a locally sourced cheese platter and G&Ts, then sent us off with a superb home-cooked breakfast. John and Kim were wonderful hosts. The beautifully and respectfully restored barracks wouldn’t look out of place on Grand Designs. Our suite had every modern comfort, including underfloor heating, a kitchenette, an art TV, and a deep two-person soaker bath. Everything is an easy walk away. There’s a cosy pub next door with great meals, a popular nearby fish van with excellent seafood, and the Maria Island ferry is just a short stroll away. Maria Island has incredible scenery and is a must. Allow at least half a day to explore. We only had one night, but strongly recommend staying longer.

The meticulous restoration and stylish design of Triabunna Barracks made our overnight stay feel special. John and Kim were exceptional hosts, sharing fascinating history and insights about the property, and serving a delicious breakfast. It was a wonderful visit and well worth the time. Highly recommended.
