The National Park is only a few minutes away by car, and the Pub there serves delicious meals with a good wine list. My wife and I really enjoyed the clean, fresh, well-appointed cabin and will book again. It has a good-sized shower with lovely soft water and a laundry nook on the verandah. The spacious property has a flowing river just a short walk away, whose relaxing sound was lovely to fall asleep to. By the river there's also a stable-style shelter with a pot belly stove and fire drum, nice to gather around on cool evenings.

This company doesn't seem receptive to criticism. When I booked Humbolt Cottage, the site kept changing my requests for four people back to two. I made sure they knew what I needed, but just before the stay they “took the liberty to” add $40 per person for the two extra guests. I understand charges can vary with the number of people. Six months after the stay, though, I got a vitriolic, accusatory email complaining about my poor TripAdvisor review. I'd forgotten my problems with the company until that email brought them back. I stand by my review and the email correspondence showing my booking requirements. If you decide to stay, I'd recommend booking.com because it's better. Woe betide anyone who dares to point things out to Veronica.

We loved sitting on the back verandah, watching the river go by as wallabies came in. The cottage is very private and quiet, an absolute delight, and just a short drive to Maydena for coffee at Fika Cafe and to Rail Riders and Russell Falls. It's a beautiful little one-bedroom place with everything we needed for an overnight visit to Mount Field National Park. The owner communicated clearly, the bed was so comfortable, and the shower was sensational.

The Tyenna River made this wilderness stay especially memorable. Its spectacular sound was a constant backdrop, while the only unit by the river stayed quiet otherwise. The accommodation was excellent in every respect, and its position brought us right into the natural wonders of the area. Simply the best wilderness accommodation experience we've ever had. Stunning.

The owner was very kind, and I’d love to come back. That little wood fire hut by the river is gorgeous, too. The cottage looks humble from the outside, but inside it’s superbly appointed: a fabulous shower, super comfortable beds, quality linen, and warmth with an uninterrupted view of the towering trees and river. You can easily hear the river from the cottage. One small suggestion, since it’s a long way from shops: the little bit of instant coffee didn’t quite fit the quality of everything else. Some real coffee for the supplied plunger, or a basic Nespresso machine, would be nice.
