Criterion Hotel Warwick

The pub is beautiful and the bar is insane. Everyone was so lovely, especially Ben. The farmers parmi and wings were really good and came out fast. I'd highly recommend stopping in, even just passing through.

There was plenty of space, especially in the lounge, and the bedroom was spacious too, with a vintage feel. My only regret was that the wrought iron bed had been replaced by a more contemporary king-size ensemble. I felt that took away from the room's style and charm.

I love this building. The original details have been kept, and my room had lovely silky oak furniture and excellent insulation, which mattered because it got down to 6°C overnight. There's also a TV room with tea and coffee, plus a beautiful balcony stretching the full width of the hotel. The bathrooms don't smell at all, not of bad aim or harsh cleaners. We were there the night before a festival, when it was the last room available in the whole city. Our room had a double bed, a wardrobe, and a sink, with a shared unisex bathroom. There are a few drawbacks: the only aircon is in the bar and restaurant, so bring jumpers for the hallways. The 16-foot ceilings make for a very tall staircase, and I'd use the back stairs, which lead to a lower section of the building. The wooden floors squeak, as you'd expect in a wooden building, and some repairs are clearly needed. I'd totally stay again.

NEVER STAY HERE ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. The DJ noise from the bar directly below room 5 was completely unacceptable and intolerable. We were told it went on until 12.30 am, but I don't think anyone on staff, management included, has bothered to experience it themselves. A refund would be the least they could do. It was impossible to sleep, let alone stay in the room. I spent half the night on a tiny couch in the breakfast room instead of in a queen-size bed. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
