My girlfriend and I spent several nights at Oceania House on Home Island in June 2024. Staying there was lovely, and the English couple caring for the place at the time made it even more special. One of the best experiences of my life.

Ozzie met me at the airport and looked after me throughout my stay. The house is stunning, full of history, very clean, and the rooms were comfortable and not too hot. There was plenty of bedding and mosquito netting over the beds, though I didn’t need it. Breakfast in the ballroom was yummy, and the view made it even better. There’s a perfect swimming spot out front and it’s a short walk to the town centre. I stayed at Oceania house for a night when I first arrived on the island, and Ozzie was very accommodating. Definitely recommend checking it out now it’s under new management.

Home Island is stunning, and the ferry terminal is 500m down the road from Oceania House, so it’s a quick walk before heading over to West Island. I stayed at the house for three nights in October 2022 and had a fantastic time. It was a privilege to stay there. The house is beautiful and comfortable, and I was provided with a bike and snorkeling gear. Thanks to Ossie for being a great host.

We loved our stay at Oceania House on Cocos Keeling Home Island, and Greg and Paula made it truly memorable with their warm hospitality and care. They prepared delicious meals around our dietary preferences and shared fascinating things about the island’s history. Greg also arranged a bone fishing trip, with all the equipment and guidance we needed to explore those pristine surrounding waters. The pickup and departure logistics were seamless too, making travel hassle-free. From arrival onward, they went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy. Thank you, Greg and Paula, for the kindness, service and memories. We can’t wait to come back to Oceania House and Cocos Keeling Home Island. Until next time, all the best.

Oceania House has old world beauty and a lot of history, so come with an open mind and don’t expect The Ritz. The quiet beach is just metres from the entrance, with shade from calophyllum, frangipani and palm trees, plus hermit crabs and wild chickens about. Bring fishing gear if you want to try casting a line. Home Island is a remote, beautiful paradise, and the house was a wonderful place to stay. PLEASE IGNORE THE OLD NEGATIVE REVIEWS. It’s under new management, and they’ve done a spectacular job. Ossie is welcoming and hospitable, and did everything he could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We had clean, comfortable rooms at Oceania House in January 2023. We stayed in The Rose Room, which had an ensuite, fans, deep windows with a breeze, and a coffee table with two chairs. We were told air conditioning would be installed in the coming weeks. The bed was comfortable with a mosquito net, though mosquitoes weren’t an issue. The days were sunny and clear with light breezes. The house feels like stepping back in time, with teak and frangipani scents, a grand spiral staircase, a majestic foyer, sitting areas, and an old fashioned library full of books and antique furniture. I liked sitting in the deep windows reading and having tea. The common kitchen has a microwave, kettle, toaster, hot plate, fridge, crockery and utensils. People often bring food from mainland Australia and cook there, which makes it feel like home. To get there, Ossie met us at West Island airport and took us to the jetty. The ferry across the lagoon to Home Island takes about 30 minutes and costs $2.50 pp, so bring coins. It’s a lovely way to get into island time with the wind in your hair and turquoise water around you. On arrival, Ossie helped with our bags and drove us to Oceania House in a golf buggy, a great way to get around town. I’d recommend hiring one during your stay.
