Cassawong Cottages

The back deck at Cassawong Cottages looks out over beautiful rainforest, and it’s a great spot to look for cassowaries. The cottages are cute and dainty, with all the features you need for a comfortable stay. They’re right across from the beach and only a short drive from local shops. I’d definitely love to stay again!

Clean, and that means a lot. Having access to washing and drying facilities was very welcome, and the spa was a real indulgence. There’s a lovely big, comfortable bed, kitchen facilities, and a comfortable living space. Despite a few gripes, I’ve had a lovely stay and recommend the place. Thank you. There’s very little privacy unless you shut yourself in completely. Neighbours can see in from most sides, so remember to close the blinds before showering or get dressed before leaving the bathroom. Here comes an old person rant: if your vision is even mildly impaired, some things are bloody frustrating. The key codes are tiny, and I couldn’t see the numbers, even with a phone torch, either after dark or in daylight. It was also hard to spot the place from the street when arriving tired and late.

The garden was lovely and so well cared for, and we spent plenty of time enjoying the pool's gentle fountain trickle. The owners were friendly and easygoing, and the place had a peaceful feel. The beach was just two minutes away. We stayed in March 2020 and really enjoyed this little cottage.

I love the cabins themselves, and the pet-friendly setup, spa, courtyard and self-contained layout are all appealing. The location is beautiful, though I prefer the beach farther into Mission Beach, around the main part rather than the south. But noise spoiled my stay. There’s no manager on site, and some cabins seem to suit groups. I was beside the butterfly cabin and there was a lot of noise, even after the people changed. The rules say no visitors, yet the first group had people coming and going constantly. Some guests also make things unpleasant for everyone else: the man in the cabin next to me took his Rottweiler into the pool. I love dogs, but that was really gross. I wanted to cancel my third night, but thought I’d lose money if I did. Next time I’ll go back to the caravan park, where it was quiet and someone was on site to deal with people breaking the rules.
