Mudstone Spa Retreat

The place was cosy, with plenty of firewood, and we enjoyed a relaxing stay. The surroundings are beautiful and private, with lots of native wildlife. Our bed in the rail cottage was very comfortable. Some things needed attention: the spa was missing or had broken cushions, its light didn't work, and the bath looked old and tired. The kitchen was short on equipment, with only an old electric frying pan or microwave for cooking. We felt it was a bit overpriced given how many other places there are to choose from.

I was lucky to get a last-minute spot at Mudstone Retreat over a long weekend, and it turned out to be a fantastic stay. The retreat feels private and indulgent, and it's in a perfect spot for a getaway. The owners were hands-on and attentive to whatever we needed, which made the experience even better. This review is overdue, but I didn't want to forget to leave it. I'll definitely return for their wonderful hospitality.

We loved the old-fashioned charm inside the spa cottage, and the entrance was lovely too. Ferns and plants around the deck leading to the jacuzzi and sauna made a great impression. The jacuzzi looks out at tall trees with a little bit of sky visible. We stayed two nights, and even the drive up made us smile, with smoke coming from the chimney. It's nicely secluded but still only a short drive to Pemberton. A five-star experience for us. We've already recommended it to friends and family looking for a few peaceful days. Taylor & Alexie

We spent three nights at Villa Romantica over the weekend, and it was so relaxing. The outdoor area was perfect for sitting and watching and listening to the birds in the treetops. Since the building and deck sit two metres up, it really feels like you're among the trees and tucked away from everyone else. The spa and sauna were a lovely bonus, especially the spa in its hidden little courtyard. We'll be back for sure!
