Britannia Hotel

We were charged an extra 500 BDT per night, 1,500 BDT for our three-night stay, even though we had said at booking that there would be three guests. Two of us arrived first and the third came later, and we were given a double-bed room. On checkout morning, a tall, thin staff member aggressively scolded us downstairs for having three people in a room for two, demanded an extra 1,000 BDT per night, and wouldn't let us explain the booking. The receipt showed the original amount while they still took the extra money. I paid by card, though I don't know if that makes any difference to this kind of scam. We later spoke to someone from outside the hotel who had rented the hall room; they said the hotel had also tried to get extra money from them.

I expected deshi chaa with breakfast, so I’d have given this five stars if tea were included. It’s Bangladeshi, after all. Tea costs extra, even with the inclusive breakfast.

The location was okay, but the room felt cramped and was dirty. We were six people in a room meant for five, and they charged us for an extra person, saying they’d send a mattress. We asked several times, but it never arrived. Bathroom supplies didn’t show up either, even after five or six requests. A waste of money.

Such a beautiful place, and the service is really good. Nice spot.
