Hotel Orchidee

No complaints. Breakfast on weekdays ends a little early, at 9:30. They close the buffet and switch off the lights then, though you're still allowed to sit and finish eating.

We've stopped here many times over the last few years. The team are friendly and always make us feel welcome, breakfast is excellent, parking is easy, and it's close to the motorway. A great place to stop overnight.

The website's instructions about Tuesday night parking are confusing, and you could end up getting your car towed. At breakfast, I told what seemed to be the only employee that something on the buffet had been expired for weeks. They just said, "put it back." I thought they would take those items away, but nothing happened, and I bet they're still being served. The hotel also feels old and a bit shady. I felt dirty in the room and bathroom, and the bathroom tap water felt sticky, so my hands seemed dirtier after washing them. This really doesn't feel like a four-star hotel.

Hotel Orchidee was a welcome find in a country where decent, modern, convenient hotels can be hard to come by. The rooms were immaculate and well equipped, and the service was friendly. It's a handy base for exploring West Vlaanderen, with easy access to the E40. Outside there's public parking, including electric chargers. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was good quality, and the bar was comfortable with reasonable prices for an evening drink. I couldn't find anything I disliked. The big hotel chains could learn from the service and facilities here.
