Mercure Antwerp City South

It’s good value for a low price, well placed in the city, and breakfast runs late with lots of options. But there was a strong sewer smell coming from the bathroom sink that spread through the room. As far as I could tell, it wasn’t just my room; the problem seemed widespread in the building.

The staff were friendly, and the hotel was great overall. The bathroom was a little old, but everything worked fine, and there was no noise from the neighbours. The parking garage can fill up, so then you have to be lucky to find a space in the open parking lots across the hotel. I’d recommend it.

The staff were hardworking and friendly, and I appreciated how positive they were while doing their best to look after the place. For my one-night business stay, the room was decent, but the shower was awful: barely any flow and the temperature kept swinging between cold and hot, which was especially unpleasant on a cold winter day. Breakfast was okay but limited, and the fitness room was disappointing, with only three machines, one broken. There was free parking around the hotel, as well as hotel parking for 20 euro a night. For several days in Antwerp, I’d definitely look at other options.

The room itself was old, in poor shape and badly in need of renovation. The cleaning team did what they could, though, and breakfast was okay, nothing special. On arrival, I found out the hotel had cancelled my booking for a no-show the day before I was due, even though my confirmation had the correct information. Staff yelled at me as if I’d made the mistake, when I clearly hadn’t. Then I was given a key to another guest’s room, so I had to go back to reception to get the right one.
