Tryp Antwerp

The room had plenty of space, and the staff were really friendly. The hotel looks nice overall, but it felt like upkeep was being neglected. There were paint flakes coming off the hallway walls and damaged flooring in the elevators. In our room, the hallway door wouldn't lock from inside and the bathroom door wouldn't lock at all. The mirror was broken near the floor, as if someone had kicked it, the carpet had quite a few stains, and the curtains had holes. It was an OK stay, but it could have been much better, though you do get what you pay for.

The staff seem to be doing their best with what they've been given. The location is a bit away from the city center, but it was the closest option for what I needed. The linen, towels and bathroom were impeccably clean, which felt especially necessary with the faint smell of cat litter in the hallway and the awful stained yellow-green carpet in the room. There wasn't much else in the way of amenities, either. Getting rid of that carpet would make a huge difference.

Breakfast is really good, with a tempting mix of hot and cold dishes, and the reception staff are friendly. For the price, it's a decent hotel, and I'd stay again. I've stayed twice. The first time I had a standard room, which is ready for an update: there were lots of stains and small wall damages, and the lights were loose. The bathroom was OK. On my second visit I booked a superior room with a painting on the wall, but it was almost the same as the standard one, with the painting as the only extra. The ventilation grille by the entrance was the odd thing about that room.

We had a great stay, and the evening staff member who helped us was especially kind. I didn't get his name, but he took time to chat about Antwerp and suggest places to visit. He also made things really easy for us with our 4-month-old baby. I'd absolutely stay again for the staff's kindness.
