Hotel Van Eyck

The decor is pretty kitschy, which is exactly what we liked about it! The room was clean and comfortable, just as pictured on Booking, and the bed was really comfortable too. The bathroom is tiny but works fine. A cute, affordable place for a short stay in the off season, when we visited at the end of January. We recommend it!

The location is the big plus, close to the tourist sights and right beside a supermarket. Our room had a nice view of the tower, and waking to see it or hear the bells was lovely. This is a small hotel, so don’t expect the range of amenities you’d get at a big chain. There’s no air conditioning, but they provide a fan for summer. It’s an old building without a lift, and rooms are on the first and second floors. We stayed for two days in August. The staff were really nice and helpful, and breakfast was good: a €14 buffet with cold meats, boiled eggs, pastries, fruit, and hot drinks. You can leave your luggage if you arrive early or after checkout.

The family who run the hotel were really kind when my daughter got sick upon arrival. On a Sunday, the owner loaned us some leftover medication. Breakfast was wonderful, and they even brought out a banana from the back for us. They had plenty of great suggestions and always said hello when we ran into them on the street. The beds were very comfortable, though the rooms were just okay. The curtains took some force to close when the sun hit the front of the building. The bathroom fixtures were nice, but I would have preferred a tile floor. It’s an old building, so you definitely hear the noises that come with that.

Right in the heart of Brugge, so it’s easy to explore the whole center on foot.
