My room had a really comfortable bed, and I slept like a baby. I also liked spending the evening with a beer in one of the lobby sofas. The breakfast was tasty and fresh, though there wasn’t much variety and I missed having porridge. The lobby, halls and stairways looked gorgeous, with old furniture, paintings and statues, and beautifully made wooden stairs. The hotel is near the center but still quiet, right beside the canal and a bus stop. Room 2 had high ceilings, huge canal-facing windows and nice old-style furniture, though I’d have preferred an upper floor. The worn power outlets were less nice, and the fridge barely kept anything cold, not even a couple of beers. All in all, I enjoyed the stay.

Breakfast was good, and the hotel is in an excellent spot close to the Markt. We stayed three nights in a spacious room overlooking the canal. The building is quite old and has lots of different levels, so it may not suit people with mobility issues.

Waking up with the windows open and seeing the canal and Belfry from bed brought me pure joy. Martin's Relais was a delight for our three-night stay, with clean rooms, a comfortable king-size bed and historic rooms that each have their own look. Cedric at reception was pleasant, and the evening concierge shared loads of local tips and even opened the bar at 10pm so we could have a nightcap. The location is peaceful, about a six-minute walk from the main square without the noise. The bath sides were very high. That was fine for us in our mid-30s, but could be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. If that applies, I’d ask about rooms with more accessible washrooms.

The hotel itself is really cute, and our room had a nice mix of old and new. It was big, clean, and the beds were comfy. You can walk easily to the center, while the quieter end of town made it easy to sleep. I’d stay here again. It might be nice to have tables and chairs in the courtyard for guests. Maybe they put those out more in summer; we came at the tail end of the dry summer.
