St Christopher's Inn Bauhaus Budget Hotel - Hostel

After recently staying in a hotel of horrors, I was worried about trying a hostel, but the ten-bed room, showers and toilets were all immaculately clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. More mixers would have been nice. I don’t drink beer, so I didn’t have many options. Thanks for a fantastic stay. I’d recommend the place to anyone!

The location was good, with all the essential shops nearby. Sadly, that was the only positive. The bathroom was covered in black mold, and the floorboards were so badly damaged that I was afraid I’d fall through on most days. The couches and carpets had strange brown and white stains that I can only assume were left by previous tenants. One of the two rooms we rented also had patches of black mold, and the floorboards in the other rooms were just as damaged as those in the bathrooms. The TV didn’t work at all. We contacted them several times about a partial refund and got nowhere. At 95€ a night, it’s outrageous to have to stay in rooms covered in mold.

The room was messy and cold, but that wasn’t even my main concern. I was in a girls-only room, and at 10am on the first day a mixed group of boys and girls came in to clean, shouting. They may have been nice people, but I didn’t know them and didn’t feel safe with men entering like that. Someone should have warned me beforehand so I knew what to expect. They woke me up, too. The next day, one of them woke me again and said I had to check out at 10am, even though the email I received said checkout was by 11am. Honestly, it would have been nice to at least get breakfast for that. As a woman, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I’d only stay if there were absolutely no other option, or for one night just to get some sleep.

The rooms were comfortable and the location was good, though the place could have been cleaner. The receptionist who greeted us was extremely unkind and didn't even mention that we could use the kitchen and laundry. That was awful. They also charge for the locker if you want to leave your things while waiting for check-in.
