The landlord was friendly and accommodating, and the apartment was quiet, with Old Bruges easy to reach on foot. We parked our car at the cemetery. It sits above an old furniture store and has practically everything you need, making it perfectly adequate for four people. The stairs are very steep, as you'd expect in an old building. Bruges is old too, and they say, "see Bruges and die" :-) Probably not suitable for very young children.
There was just one key, and the apartment is above a furniture store, which is the only way in. I also wonder whether this setup is acceptable from a fire safety point of view. I wouldn't recommend it for families with babies or small children. The landlord knew we had very young children, but there was no high chair, baby bed, or toddler bed. The stairs to the bedrooms are dangerous, and the low windows open fully, creating an extreme risk of falling out. It gets far too hot in summer without air conditioning. There were only three fans, and one didn't work.
The owner was very welcoming and gave us helpful tips on places to visit. The apartment was clean, with comfortable bedding, on a quiet street not far from the city center. In the second-floor bedroom, blackout curtains would have helped. Take care on the stairs, the very attentive owner warned us they could be dangerous.
