Hotel Abberdeen

I booked by mistake and cancelled just a few minutes later, but the hotel wouldn’t make any exception. I’d also bought insurance with the booking, yet they offered no solution or goodwill gesture. That lack of flexibility and customer care left a really bad impression, especially in Brussels where I expected a more professional approach. Be very careful before booking, because even an obvious mistake seems to leave no room for error.

The receptionist completely changed my impression of the place. She was so kind and chatty, and took time to point us toward the right places to visit in Brussels. She deserves a raise! Before speaking with her, I was a little uneasy about the room: some of the new wood was coming off, and there were a few small stains in the bathrooms.

The first receptionist we met was such a gem. She lent me a kettle for the baby bottles and even carried our bags upstairs while I had my hands full with three little kids. The location was easy too. After that, though, the stay was awful. The heat barely worked, the floors were torn up, and there was hardly any space to put our things. Even with the windows shut, cold air and lots of noise came through, while the curtains blocked so much light that sleeping was miserable. I’m not coming back.

No lift made getting our luggage upstairs a real problem, and there wasn’t Wi-Fi in the room. Inside, it was in terrible shape: dust everywhere, a dirty floor and toilet, and a bed that felt uncomfortable and unhygienic. For the price, neither the room nor the service came close to being worth it. A very bad stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it to other travellers.
