Hotel Albergo

The reception staff were nice and helpful, and the rooms had everything we needed. It’s about a 20-minute walk from the Grand Place, which made getting around easy. With a really good price, I’d count this among the best options for a stay in Brussels.

The room was very small and simple, and it smelled odd for reasons I couldn’t work out. For the price, I don’t think it was worth it. The area around the hotel felt dodgy in the evening. Wi-Fi was fine, but the TV had very few channels, and the staff were friendly. A few easy fixes would help: the toilet seat could be replaced, the window lock didn’t work, and a list of working TV channel numbers would be useful. There was also only half a roll of toilet paper. A full roll shouldn’t cost much.

The room stayed at a good temperature, but the rest of the stay was poor. The mattress was damaged, the toilet seat was nearly loose, and a curtain had been put over the window for privacy. There was no breakfast despite what the advertisement said, and they didn’t make up or clean the room. The entrance bell rang noisily at all hours of the night. Some of the female employees also came across as unprofessional and unfriendly.

I lasted about half an hour before leaving. The room reeked of damp, which set off my asthma, and they refused to refund me. One of the worst hotels, maybe even hostels, I’ve stayed in. I’d tell everyone to avoid it.
