Aparthotel Remparts

We were happy with our stay in the top-floor studio. It had two rooms, a little office area, a kitchen, and an open terrace, though we didn't use the terrace in February because it was cold. The beds were comfortable, the linen was clean, and the pillow was good, especially since it wasn't too thick. The kitchen had everything needed to eat in. The owner and his assistant were very friendly. I had seen reviews from people who stayed on the ground floor and had a bad time, and I'm sorry that happened to them.

The location is great, with the center and plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and the staff were lovely. They even let us leave our bags before check-in. For a price below the Brussels average, I'd recommend these authentic apartments in a 17th-century building. We stayed on the ground floor and worried about the lack of windows, but the ventilation worked well enough even in the hot summer. There was a little mold, though nothing major. The kitchen had what we needed, including tea, coffee, and a microwave. The small shower came with towels, a hairdryer, shower gel, and shampoo. The big bed was soft, and the mattress smelled of vinegar, so I hope they replace it soon. We also found an iron and a clothes dryer.

Pubs and restaurants are right by the studio, and you can walk to Grand Place in about 10 minutes. Trams and buses are also less than a 10-minute walk away. The staff were polite and friendly, especially the lovely woman who greeted us. Inside, it was comfortable, fresh, tidy, and clean, with decor I really liked, a fan, and a large window. The kitchen was fully equipped, and the bathroom and room were very nice. A great spot in Brussels. I'd happily come back.

The studio was terribly dusty and dirty, and smelled strongly of cat urine and damp mold. I have severe asthma allergies, and after 15-20 minutes there I had to go to a 24-hour emergency clinic. I offered proof of the medical visits, but the owner said the booking was nonrefundable even though we didn't stay, and he was able to rent the place again. Before we arrived, I told him I'd tested positive for covid after reaching Europe and had been in the hospital for several days. I tried to cancel more than a week ahead, but was told I'd lose my money. Two days after being released, we went to the studio; since we'd paid anyway, I said I'd convalesce there. The smell was putrid. I should have checked the reviews more carefully, and that's on me. From what I've seen, when anyone says something negative about the studio, the owners immediately say they're trying to get revenge. I don't see what we'd gain from that when their pocket stays full as people come and go. I've traveled for 35 years, and this was the worst experience I've had. The customer service and attitude were very poor.
