The way the booking was dealt with afterwards was the most frustrating part. The manager spoke only French and made little effort to communicate in English. Their sole response was to insist on changing the sheets, even though I had already lost confidence in the room's hygiene. I calmly explained that I no longer felt comfortable staying because of the room's condition and how the issue was handled, then left shortly afterwards without spending the night. I still had to pay the full price. I even suggested they could at least deduct cleaning costs, but they ignored my later messages and wouldn't discuss a fair compromise. Meanwhile, confirmation notifications kept arriving after I had told them I’d left. That began to feel passive aggressive and petty rather than like professional service. I was also told that a bad review would be considered pressure. This is simply my honest account of what happened and how it felt, with nothing exaggerated. I booked while driving after a five-hour trip because I urgently needed somewhere to stay, so I hadn't checked the exact room dimensions. The online photos made the rooms look much larger and more comfortable than they were. At Les Écrins, I found the room cramped, and the so-called double bed barely seemed suited to two. Tired as I was, I just wanted a shower and rest. Then I noticed stains and hairs on the bedding after showering and getting into bed. Seeing that after hours of travel made me lose any sense of comfort or safety. The photos also seemed misleading in how spacious and comfortable they made the rooms look. Hotels can make mistakes, and sheets can be dirty, but the lack of empathy, accountability, communication, and willingness to find a reasonable solution made the whole experience disappointing. Based on what happened, I can't recommend staying here.
