Safestay Brussels Grand Place

The app is used for the room key, and every bunk has a USB charging port, a light, and curtains that close around the whole bed. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. It's a prime location, but that means noise from people talking and trucks cleaning the streets carries on through the night. The rooms also get warm, even in winter.

Check-in was easy once I had the door pin, though you do need to remember it yourself 🤣. Such a friendly hostel, and I had an amazing stay.

The central location, good Wi-Fi and breakfast were all pluses, and I found the place neat and tidy compared with other hostels. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the price felt reasonable. My four-bed room was perfectly fine, with a clean bathroom and shower, and curtains on each bed for a bit more privacy. It isn't a five-star hotel, of course. With the windows shut it was quiet enough, though the nightlife outside could get loud if they were open.

There was singing right outside our window until 3 a.m., then construction began there at 8. I usually don't mind hotel noise, but that was a lot. Worse, the room smelled of sewage the entire stay. We left the windows open for hours and it still lingered. The front desk person said running hot water in the shower would fix it, and that helped a little, but the smell stayed. It was ridiculous that the cleaning staff went into the room and insisted nothing was wrong.
