We usually choose hotels, but I wanted a more relaxed setting and decided to try a B&B for the first time with my family. I'm so glad we did. It felt like a home away from home, and much more than just somewhere to sleep. Maria welcomed us like a long-lost aunt. She showed us around and made sure we had what we needed. Our room was clean and tidy, with a calming smell, and the beds were so comfortable that our plan to leave early fell apart. My kids loved the upstairs space of their own. The shower was great too, and we enjoyed the pool. The QR code in the room let us reserve a swim time, so our family could use it comfortably and at our convenience. My husband and I sat in the backyard with some local beer while the kids played soccer. We'd never been so close to cows before and thought it was really cool. We expected a farm smell, but there wasn't one. I liked that the kitchen had a small fridge stocked with local beer and wine, and there was another little fridge in our room for our drinks. We skipped breakfast because my boys are picky, and I regret that now. I honestly can't think of a bad thing to say. We said goodbye to Maria and thanked her before leaving. If you need some peace and relaxation, this is a perfect family spot, only a 15 minute drive from the center of Brugge.

A great villa for a multi-family holiday, with a shared indoor swimming pool.

We spent a short cycling holiday in Damme this week and stayed at B&B Het Weiland. Beforehand, we were told the owners would be away on holiday and her sister, Anne, would welcome us. We found it odd that bookings were being accepted while they were away, though it seemed we were the only guests. Things were fine at first, apart from lots of cobwebs. Then we found there was no hot water in our room. Anne couldn't be reached, and when I phoned the owners, they said they were on holiday and couldn't fix it. They suggested using the pool shower, but the pool wasn't clean (see photos). The room was never entered during our stay, so the bed wasn't made, towels weren't changed, and rubbish wasn't emptied. I don't blame Anne, who had already done all she could. Breakfast was simple but good at first. There was no bacon with my egg because they had none. The fresh fruit salad on day one was already a bit spoiled by day two, and the cheese had mold on it. Hygiene was disappointing overall: the cobwebs clearly weren't from a single day, the pool was extremely dirty, and the sun loungers had bird droppings on them. At €144 a night, we expected much more. Hosts planning a holiday should make sure not to accept bookings during that time. This was the worst B&B we've ever visited, despite staying at many, about three a year.

The pool can be booked for private use, and breakfast was plentiful with good quality products. Lut and her sister were welcoming and helpful throughout. We had a wonderful family stay at this charming, well-located place, not far from Bruges. We highly recommend it.

The pool was a lovely bonus, and the B&B feels warm and thoughtfully decorated. It’s a great base for family trips to Bruges, Damme, or Knokke. I’d happily recommend it.
