Herenboer Damme

The peaceful setting is the main reason I’d give this place five stars. The cottages face a big meadow where sheep graze and chickens and ducks wander about. Damme is close, though there aren’t shops for everyday groceries, just a bakery. Bruges and Sluis are easy to reach by bike, and the surrounding area is lovely. We highly recommend it. We know people who’ve been coming here for twenty years. We stayed for a week at the end of June. The cottages are fairly basic but comfortable, with decent beds. The bedrooms are upstairs via a steep staircase, which could be difficult if you have trouble walking. The bathroom and separate toilet downstairs are fine. There are six cottages for rent, some used for long-term stays, and the three for people seeking a quiet break look out over the meadow. Even though I’d rate the rooms and service four stars, the place as a whole gets five from me.

The canal and meadow with farm animals make for a stunning setting, and Damme center is a short walk away. There’s a nice little playground for kids, too. The interior is pretty basic and practical, but the value is good. I’d come back.

We had a really nice four-week stay. The cottage was roomy, warm, and had everything we needed.

It’s so peaceful and beautiful around here, yet Bruges is still quick to get to.
