The buffet breakfast was good, and we could eat in our room. But I’d called ahead to check that the shower was accessible and was assured it would be level, even without handles or a stool or bench. When we arrived, there was a step into the shower. My mother fell while getting out, and there was nothing to hold on to or a bath mat.

A clean, good-standard budget hotel for staying near the airport. The staff were friendly and breakfast was good, and the place was quiet at night. Bus service goes to the airport or straight into Bruessels, while Diegem train station is 1.2 km away, about a 15-minute walk or a bus ride. There’s also an express bus to EUparlament on the main road nearby. I’d recommend it for an inexpensive stay in Brussel.

I’ve been around Europe and stayed in almost every country over the last 45 days, and a lot of these problems seem common in hotels. Still, it’s frustrating to see the ibis general manager actively reply to reviews without fixing what people report. Nothing seems to change. The €14 parking is still there, and the see-through shower doors don’t close, hanging open by about six inches and letting water get everywhere. There was no hair dryer, no air conditioning, my TV remote didn’t work, and I found a bug in the room that looked like a roach. I attached a photo. I know this is a budget hotel, but the €14 parking makes guests feel they’ve overpaid once they see the room and deal with all the budget shortcomings. If the manager responds as if these issues are being addressed, I expect to see some action. Otherwise, don’t respond.

We were happy with the clean, quiet surroundings and friendly people, and had a great stay. My family stayed here while we checked out the Belgian cyclocross scene over New Year’s. Not sure what the other reviews are referring to.
