B&B Ferme de Leuze

We paid 1380 euro for four nights for three adults and two children, including an 18-month-old, and left earlier than planned because we felt so uncomfortable. We weren’t refunded for the night we didn’t stay. The owners were rude and mean to us, and their anger about our friends not reading checkout instructions, which were only in French and Dutch, seemed to get directed at my family too. I’d never been treated like that on holiday. The apartment was cold, around 17 degrees. When we asked about turning on the heat, the owner was resistant and frustrated, then said heating was expensive. The thermostat was in a utility room guests couldn’t access. There was mold in the bedrooms and kitchen, including on the kitchen drawers and utensils. Basic kitchen items were missing too, like enough forks for three people or more than three glasses. We’d brought family meals prepared at home to heat over Easter, but cooking and eating was difficult with so little equipment. Even asking for a teapot or a bottle for tap water brought comments about Polish guests being demanding. We tried to put it aside and enjoy time with friends and family. But when our friends were checking out, the owner confronted them for leaving at 10:05 instead of 10:00, then noticed some cutlery wasn’t in their room. It was still being washed in ours because we hadn’t had enough. We were called disrespectful for not returning it, and told the dirt we’d found in the kitchen was the fault of previous guests, since the owner couldn’t be expected to inspect and clean every room after each stay. The owner also said they were disappointed in other guests for not cleaning properly. Then came: “there are guests we are looking forward to seeing again and there are guests that we hope to never see again - you can guess which guest you are”. All this over cutlery? The setting is green and pleasant, though right beside a highway, so you can hear traffic. There are no shops nearby. Dogs are welcome, and after this experience it felt like they were more welcome than people. I’d seen a few negative reviews before booking and assumed they were rare. I was wrong.

We had such a lovely stay. It’s a fantastic place for kids, and our dog was made very welcome too. The hosts were amazing.

We were scrambling for somewhere to stay with our dog in -1°C after the cottage we’d booked turned out to have no heating. It ended up being a blessing in disguise. They welcomed us warmly and got our room heating up straight away; our dog was settled in just as quickly. The dogs can roam off leash as soon as they’re through the gate. We let ours loose and even fetched another guest so all the dogs could play together. Breakfast was delicious, and we were really well looked after. Highly recommended.
